The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is designed for those currently working in an educational environment or who wish to enhance their skills in this field.
It was previously known as CTLLS, from the Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector suite of qualifications. Now, it belongs to the TAQA suite and is called the Certificate in Education and Training. The CET focuses more on the skills and knowledge to effectively teach one-on-one or to a group of people.
You may be working part time as a teacher/tutor/lecturer and want to progress your career within this sector. You could be working with large groups, assessing learners NVQs or even working one to one with learners. The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is a step up from the Level 3 Award in Education and Training.
The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is split into 4 easy-to-understand sections that consist of a total of 5 Units.
Section 1 – Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training
This section covers roles and responsibilities within teaching, legislation and codes of practice, equality and diversity, and points of referral. This is completed entirely online via our Virtual Learning Environment.
Section 2 – Planning to Meet the Needs of Learners in Education and Training
Section 2 of the CET requires you to complete an initial assessment and show evidence of this. This section also covers using theory to inform curriculum design, contributing factors behind resource development, creating your own scheme of work & lesson planning, and research & evaluation of resources.
Section 3 – Your Lessons and Your Assessments
During section 3, you will be required to demonstrate everyday evidence of working in a teaching role, such as resources, assessments, and communication.
Section 4- Your Review
Lastly, in this section you will be reviewing the effectiveness of assessments, the legal requirements, and organisations of resources, and evaluating the development and use of resources.
Course Information for Learners
1. The basis of the CET course
The CET award course is made up of 4 sections, consisting of 5 units.
Your first section is about the roles and responsibilities of an adult education tutor and is conducted online on our VLE.
Section 2 of the CET requires you to complete an initial assessment and show evidence of this. This section also covers using theory to inform curriculum design, contributing factors behind resource development, creating your own scheme of work & lesson planning, and research & evaluation of resources.
During section 3, you will be required to demonstrate everyday evidence of working in a teaching role, such as resources, assessments, and communication. Lastly, in this section you will be reviewing the effectiveness of assessments, the legal requirements, and organisations of resources, and evaluating the development and use of resources.
2. Support
You will be supported by our trainers and assessors. Each course will be assigned a trainer/assessor to guide you through the course.
Trainers and assessors will be available via our online system and will aim to answer your questions within 48 hours. Our assessors and trainer are available for help and advice between 9 am and 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday.
3. Length of course
It will normally take about 6 – 8 months to complete the CET course. This is based upon you undertaking 2-3 hours of studying per week. You are able you can complete the course quicker if you have the availability to put more hours in.
4. How am I assessed?
You will be assessed by our team of dedicated assessors and trainers. You will have access to our Virtual Learning Environment where you will be to complete your assignments. Once you have completed your assignments your assessor will assess your work and provide feedback on your submission.
